By happenstance today is the actual day, May 25, picked because it was the birthday of Bill "Bojangles" Robinson.

When it doesn't fall on a weekend, celebrations are often moved for convenience.

I'm going to have my usual Saturday, plus wearing a Tap Day shirt from 1997 that I pulled out of the specials box in the attic. Yesterday my regular tap class was guest-taught by Barbara Duffy.
This is years ago, in New York. Not us.

One of her things yesterday was startling. She told us about something her Rolf practitioner had said. Think of your legs starting as just below the bottom ribs (in the front). It definitely changes the way one walks, at least mentally. One of her other usual things that I had also heard from her in the past is to stick out your butt a little (not quite like getting ready to do a squat). Your feet should be under your hips. The idea of thinking about shoulder blades (scapulae) when reaching was not new to me. I went away wondering how to both stick out my butt and walk from my ribs. But also with a new short combination and feeling exhilarated.
