I've been doing an internship equivalent in physical therapy in a couple of public schools. I turn out to have a lot of flaws in this regard, and am on the verge of not passing. I really need to improve, fast. I haven't given up, the people working with me haven't given up, but it's a disheartening time. Two separate acquaintances today have posted links to essays about succeeding in doing what you want. (neither essay was first published recently - maybe it's a time of year that people need such help). I don't want to write a novel or do sleight of hand, but the messages are pretty much the same. It boils down to practice, and try your hardest.

the other one is behind the cut due to a naughty word in the URL. Read the essay anyway.
