This article is seven years old, but I just saw it yesterday: https://jhupress.wordpress.com/2013/04/24/unraveling-the-linothorax-mystery-or-how-linen-armor-came-to-dominate-our-lives/ Maybe I'll try to track down the book that resulted. This is current: https://yalebooksblog.co.uk/2020/08/07/how-to-decorate-an-18th-century-pocket/ I have such a pocket, unadorned, which I bought at a yard sale a long time ago. The only time I embroider any more is for Arthur's valentines. My eyes aren't good enough for it, and right now, if I have sewing time, it should be masks. Still, it's fun to be reminded of people walking around knowing that there were secretly fabulous items underneath their outer clothes.
