Artisans of the past
Aug. 12th, 2020 09:59 amThis article is seven years old, but I just saw it yesterday:

Maybe I'll try to track down the book that resulted.
This is current:

I have such a pocket, unadorned, which I bought at a yard sale a long time ago. The only time I embroider any more is for Arthur's valentines. My eyes aren't good enough for it, and right now, if I have sewing time, it should be masks. Still, it's fun to be reminded of people walking around knowing that there were secretly fabulous items underneath their outer clothes.

Date: 2020-08-12 05:12 pm (UTC)I think that's still a thing --basically every bra I own is brightly coloured or patterened* and I often coordinate them to my underwear and outer outfit. It's generally not because I expect them to be seen**, but because I like fabulous clothing and I adore attention to detail with said clothing, even down to the parts that aren't visible.
The idea that you embroider valentines is very sweet and I'd somehow not heard of it before.

*huzzah for having small breasts, since I'm given to understand this becomes an impossibility over a certain size
**I do have certain clothes that I match with certain bras that *will* be seen, like a fabulous halter dress that I always wear with a particular lace-backed bra, but that's the exception to my wardrobe, not the rule.
