I lay awake in the night, composing a post about how a general strike would work in the US, based on the walkouts by professional sportsfolk in response to the shooting of Jacob Blake, but then I had a weird coincidence of the day and let it slide. In two separate places (twitter and the New Yorker), in things written months (years?) apart, there was a reference to someone as a bannerman. I admit that I thought it was one of the best coinages of the Game of Thrones books (unless Martin stole it from somewhere else), but I hadn't noticed it being that prevalent in articles unrelated to fiction.
