A friend of a friend rented a beach cottage alone for a month when her husband left her. That doesn't appeal to me, but what if I *do* go to Korea on my own? I have decided to give it a month for prep (really working on Korean, building up my jogging up hills mileage, etc.). If it still seems like a thing I could do, I will buy tickets for mid-late June. That seems like the best time. Warm enough to not need a lot of layers and to be able to eat in parks all the time (I'm still not eating indoors at restaurants). Before the heavy rains of late July and August. Before WWIII or US election violence.

Yesterday I was waiting in the long human cashier line at the Lexington Stop & Shop. No express lane, no other staffed lane at all, just the check it out yourself area. Black teenager carrying a box of muffins and something else looked, and then looked around. I offered to let him go in front of me, but it wouldn't have helped much because the person in front of me had a full cart. I suggested he try the self-checkout aisle. He said no, that if he walked out with stuff that way he'd be accused of stealing. I said "that's weird" and he agreed, but I think he opted for it anyway. Would someone stop him? The self-checkout voice insists that you take your receipt, so he could have proven non-theft if he had to.
The assumptions themselves would have been bad, of course.
