If I were the organizers, I think I'd declare "go to bed an hour early" night instead. With lots more publicity, maybe that would have a noticeable effect on power usage, which I don't think the current idea does, because it interrupts the evening for most people. An early bedtime would let some people get more sleep, and others might enjoy the time to relax and think, or chat, or other things one does in bed. Or just use the darkness hour to get ready for bed, which is partly what I did, even though we didn't actually go to sleep any earlier. The difference between this and a blackout is that all the neighbors' lights were on, and so was the streetlight that we use daily for a bathroom nightlight. We didn't light any candles or use flashlights - there was enough light that I could brush my teeth and put away some groceries (the fridge light came on, though) and do some foam rolling. I hadn't looked up foam rolling on youtube before. There are tons of videos. This one includes some moves that I do http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLsCTc1zY2Q
We sat in the dark in front of the fire and played botticelli and suchlike. Perry complained that since we weren't in the car we shouldn't play "car games" but eventually joined in.
