I could subscribe to the Shipping Forecast tweets and feel even more like an ambivalent Anglophile

I could send out lots of short things, like:

A whole lot of what the heck
I would like to touch some of those garments, just to see how they are constructed.

It's almost farmers market time.  I still have one acorn squash from last fall, we used up the last storage onion in mid-April, and I'm going to thaw the frozen strawberries later today.

I learned today that there is a place near Fort Worth, TX, called White Settlement.  My first thought was that there should be hundreds of towns in the US named White Settlement, but that might get confusing (although almost half the states in the US have a municipality called Bristol, and we cope with that).

I could re-tweet.   On the other hand, some people send out tweets to remind people that they have put up a blog post.  This one by
[livejournal.com profile] eegatland   (whose twitter name is EWein2412) is important, and I can link to that.

I emailed the US Ambassador in Ethiopia, and actually received a reply.  I don't know that it will help much, though.

I could keep some sort of running update of my runs (I need to work a bit more on clever turns of phrase).  I sort of do that here, though.  On Sunday, the plan was to run eight miles at a 10:00 pace.  I had  mis-remembered it as a 9:33 pace, but when I was out there, on a nice day, cruising along the bikeway, I must have picked songs that were too fast (I don't have a listening device, but I have them in my head.  In this case it was "Alors on danse," "It's not right, but it's OK," and "Hey Mr. DJ" (the Rihanna version)), or I was in race mode or something.  Despite reminders from my watch, I ended up doing it in <73 minutes, plus a couple of minutes for a bathroom and sunscreen break at the Bedford end.  Either because I pushed myself too hard or because I came home and spent an hour aerating the front yard with a hand & foot tool, or the combination, I ended up with what feels like a muscle strain in my right thigh.
Maybe it really was the aerator

The technique is to hold the handle with hands, and put one foot on the cross-bar part, pushing the hollow prongs into the ground.  I used almost exclusively my right foot, and there were many repetitions of the exercise.  I don't water the yard (it gets rained on from time to time) and I am unwilling to put poison on it, so gradually non-grass plants are taking over, but I'm fine with that as long as it is green and growing.  I bought some clover seeds but haven't yet strewn them about.  The aerator was bought ages ago when I would regularly be chided by our long-dead grass-loving neighbor, who felt that I was encouraging "thatch" by the way I cared for the lawn.  It seemed like a good choice for my token ministrations. (I also use a reel mower, so it isn't totally unkempt).

yeah, I was amused by the name "White Settlement" too.

I sometimes think about twitter as a replacement for LambdaMOO and Dhalgren where I occasionally spew random short musings on my day (e.g. "just got back from square dancing" or "all yoga'd up"), but sometimes I don't really want those random mutterings saved for posterity. On the MOO, it's only as permanent as the other guy's scrollback, and doesn't end up searchable, so I can say things that are more private than I would otherwise. On the other hand, the audience is really small these days. (So, do I want publicity or not? I am apparently of two minds.) (At least one of those minds should get back to work, though. :-)

I went so far as to discover that nosrednayduj wasn't yet taken some time ago. Maybe I should check again.
