Katie Couric was on The Daily Show last night, promoting the new documentary "Fed Up" about sugar causing obesity. She's the narrator, and feels strongly about the subject (80% of  processed foods in the US have added sugars.  There is an estimate that 1/3 of people in the US will have Type 2 Diabetes by 2050).  She said "nobody cooks anymore."  I turned off the TV, thinking that if she is so wrong about that, some of her other facts or opinions might be off.  I realize that fast food/take-out food is commonly consumed, and that many people rely almost exclusive on prepared food - my parents used frozen entrees as the basis for supper almost every day.  Still, in a country where so many people have food allergies or are picky in other ways and fancy cooking is a huge hobby, many of us really do cook almost every day, and don't rely heavily on factory or commercial foods.  How can I look up the percentages?

Related a bit (film and nutrition), the final sentence of a review by Brian Juergens of the new movie "Neighbors" ends "the most horrifying breast-pump incident in cinematic history."  Actually, now that I think about the context of the movie, it's possible that breast milk is not involved.

Cooking from "scratch" can be easier than cooking prepared foods: fling a bag of frozen veggies in the microwave, and roast some chicken legs....no sugar, no MSG, real food.

Or boiled eggs? A box of strawberries, blueberries, apples...now those are tough to prepare. Doesn't get much easier.

(My parents too use frozen entrees, or take-out food all the time.)
