I didn't expect that
Oct. 3rd, 2014 08:02 pmThe Central Synagogue in NYC streams their services. The Yom Kippur eve music has been nice, and quite traditional for the most part. The sermon was about what would be called in UU parlance "right relationship" - listening to other people's stories instead of tuning them out, etc. I was expecting Avinu malkeinu next (there is a PDF of the siddur and I've been following along a bit). What actually came in between was " For good" ("Because I knew you") from Wicked, sung by the cantor and the main rabbi (a man and a woman, respectively, which I'm mentioning to help you imagine how the voices blend). Huh. I can see how it fits with the sermon topic, but I was startled.
