I was startled at the music coming out of the radio, but realized the WUMB was probably doing some sort of MLK day tribute by playing 1960s peacenik music. Over the last couple of days a number of folks (online & in print and radio) have been emphasizing his writings and speeches about peace in general, the war in Viet Nam specifically, and the idea that violence isn't going to bring justice. He was right, I think, but it doesn't stop it from seeming opportunistic to me now that people want to rant about the war in Iraq. [digression - how many times a day do you think about the war in Iraq? How many times a day do you think about sex? see http://www.thephoenix.com/article_ektid31486.aspx]

I thought that while I was indicating music I'd do something about how I feel, but congested isn't one of the choices in the drop-down menu, nor is mildly feverish or drinking excessive amounts of liquids because of a sore throat... . Why not? Probably lots of people type entries while full of germs. I know that ill is not a mood, but neither is hungry, and that's there. (subjunctive is a mood, and it's not there either).

Years ago a friend wistfully said that the ideal situation for dealing with menstruating would be if one could take out one's uterus and leave it in the sink to drain. I thought of that when I saw the plan to give women cadaver uteri to enable pregnancy and then removing them.

What the heck? I switched over to NPR and heard, startled, a clip from the the service at Ebenezer Baptist Church with people singing Kumbaya (the "come by here" verse). Yikes. Let's do the time warp again.

I've come to the end of the episodes of Battlestar Gallactica that are available on DVD. If I want to try to catch up on season 3 I'll have to wait for DVD and try to remain unspoiled in the meantime, or take up with Bitnet, risking computer viruses and moral ambiguity.

Comments including a couple of small spoilers about the episode "Lay Down Your Burdens part 2"

1) Contrary to the opinion of the reviewer on TWOP, I love the hats people were wearing in New Caprica city.
[hat digression #1 - I've ordered the yarn to make Jayne Cobb's cunning hat, and have arranged to try again to learn to knit.]
[hat digression #2 - watched snippets of "The Virgin Queen" that's being re-run on 'GBH. Costumes are OK, not perfect, but what's with the bare heads? Hat wearing was required by law outdoors in Elizabethan England, although I think it wasn't enforced.]

2) Anders is coughing and doesn't have tuberculosis? A shocking departure from film tradition.
Pneumonia just isn't as interesting, even if it's potentially fatal.

3) I do agree with the TWOP person that Aaron Douglas (Chief Tyrol) looks much nicer with the beard.
[beard digression - I watched part of "24" last night and was impressed by how much better Alexander Siddig looks now compared to the ST: DS9 era. Probably it's the beard there, too.]

4) In keeping with today's 1960s musical backdrop, I was pleased to learn that Tyrol's speech to the union folks was mostly lifted from a famous speech by Mario Savio of the Berkeley Free Speech movement supporting union hotel workers.
