I am still not to the point of being able to say in Spanish some sentences I have said in English to Spanish speakers - "Are you bringing the stroller instead of the wheelchair?" "Did you call your cousin?" Or things I didn't even try - "What do I do about the one way streets?"
A couple of times in the past week, Duolingo has given me a sentence like "My grandfather loves basketball." This is meant to remind me of the annoying "a [person] le encanta [whatever]" and that basketball in that context has to be (in my head) "the basketball"
(el baloncesto - it's wrong without the article). But I can't see that without wanting to form the sentences "I loved that basketball. That basketball was like a basketball to me." I don't know any form of past tense, or how to make a simile. How long it this going to take? Forever, probably.
