I have started wondering why nobody seems to be making what I'd thing would be an obvious analogy between the Trump White House and Prince Prospero's "castellated abbeys" in Poe's "The Masque of the Red Death."

In the past week we've learned that eleven secret service agents, one of the military guys that works as valet or something to the president, Katie Miller (spouse of scum of the Earth Stephen Miller, press secretary of somewhat less scum of the Earth Mike Pence), and FLOTUS's assistant have all tested positive for Covid 19. Three of the close pandemic advisors, including Fauci, have started self-isolating because they were exposed to KM, who at a press appearance last week was the only person not wearing a mask. Maybe that's the difference - at the masque, everybody (spoiler: including the Red Death) was masked.

It's been circulating on my Facebook friendlist and on some of the Tumblrs I read; I saw several macros as well as quotations. We can but hope (with my now-traditional apotropaic caveat that the rest of us, not being contemptuously immured with illness, should be fine).

I don't have Facebook, and have nearly given up on Tumblr. It's interesting about silos.

And I'm not on Twitter, so any meme that gains currency there will miss me unless someone explains it.

I'm glad other people are doing useful (?) things with this.

I think they might be doing sympathetic magic, but I am not sure it's un-useful.

I linked to the Gutenberg Project version of the story on facebook in, I think, early March, after referring to it repeatedly for a month.

Granted, I don't usually count as anyone.
