Part of my storm prep is to fill jugs of water. Is this in any way sensible? It takes up a lot of space. We have two hot water tanks (the solar one feeds into the electric one, so that the water is pre-warmed and not much electricity is needed). If things were so dire that water wouldn't come out of the tap, we could use the spigot at the bottom of the tanks.

We did this in California as earthquake prep. IMHO, not needed in NE. We have rain here. Just put out a bucket.

Of course I cheat by living near a lake, so maybe a real rain barrel would be useful, they have like 50 gallons.
