I make grumpy remarks sometimes about Duolingo, and some aspects of Spanish grammar in particular. Usually the main thing that keeps me from quitting is my streak. Today I felt better about it. Every (don't know how many) lessons, one has to take a test to get access to the next set of lessons. No hints or clickable definitions available. I did the second one today. There are vocabulary words and verb forms that we haven't had, I guess to see if anything is being internalized. Parts of it are multiple choice. I got them all right, which is gratifying. I also noticed in my achievement list that I have been exposed to 933 words, not so far from the possibly magical 1000. As a self-reward, or maybe more motivation, I have ordered myself a YA book in Spanish from Moon Palace books in Minneapolis, one of several organizations there that I sent money to today or will tomorrow. (also Black Visions Collective, a medical organization, and a place that helps homeless youth of color). I was planning to give to the bail fund, but they seem to have received lots of donations from other folks.
