I use duckduckgo for searching, not google. I use some google docs because for reasons that continue to be unclear to me, some people really want to organize things that way (and their explanations of why often sound to me like someone describing a religious experience, so I don't get it). And I use Youtube a lot, even though I know that at the same time I am looking up knitting stitches or dance routines, many people are learning to be white supremacists and such. But it can be so gratifying to gain a (tiny) skill quickly. A year or two ago, we called the garage door people because a electric door wasn't closing all the way. Guy came, futzed around, promised me he could do something with the remote that it turned out he couldn't do, left. Door still didn't close all the way. Invoice was more than the usual, due to time spent. Arthur paid it anyway. I fumed, multiple times a week, for months. Now that the roof has been fixed and the old nests have been removed, it seemed like a good time to make the door go all the way to the ground, so that creatures would have a harder time getting into the garage. Arthur said something vague about finding a different door company, but I decided to check Youtube first, to see if something would be possible for a non-handy person such as myself. I picked what looked like the simplest fix, knowing that re-doing cables or chains would be beyond me. Our motor is very similar to the one in the video. I got up on the ladder, followed the adjustment instructions exactly, and now the door closes, although one can see light a tiny bit under one end. I don't know whether or not that's a new problem. The concrete floor of the garage has cracks in it from settling, so the door might be uneven because the floor is.
