The picture above is of people watching from the Griffith Observatory as a sky-writing plane puts "Care Not Cages" over the Men's Central Jail in LA. It's part of a nationwide performance art protest piece.

Last year, Flo attended a July 4th gathering to which someone had brought a pie with carefully cut out letters on the crust that said "Close the Camps." Evergreen message, as twitter land might say. I was inspired, but not that crafty, so I tried to copy the message above with strawberry juice onto the crust of the from-scratch vegan apple pie I made today. Graphic design is not my strong suit. In this case the gathering is the two of us, as all meals have been for months. Normally on the 4th we'd be eating with a bunch of bellringers. Maybe some other time.
