Are those people who started their own sourdough an stuff putting up summer vegetables in jars? I suddenly thought that we should be doing it right now, when the farmer's market is so flush with goodness, but would hate to deal with botulism if I messed up. I have had the sweep and furnace maintenance people come, so that part of getting ready for winter is done.

I have one friend who has extensive jam experience, but this was about the first jamming season he's had since his kids were born. So yes, some people are putting things into jars, but I don't know any better than you (and honestly probably worse) about how to do so free of botulism.
