broke my duration rule
Oct. 2nd, 2020 03:34 pmI was already overdue for an eye checkup in the winter, and then when I finally called in February, the first slot was in April. Which didn't happen, and then by the time they'd opened up again, my eye doctor actually retired, so things were ever farther behind. I went this morning. I have had four different kinds of drops in my eyes - don't remember what the first one was for. The second was (the yellow stuff) was to check for cataracts (yes, still there, still not bad enough to operate on). The third was to dilate them. Seven hours later, my eyes are still dilated enough to make this hard to type. For safety reasons, instead of sending me out to the waiting room while waiting for drops #3 to work, the doctor left the examining room and I sat there by myself, hanging around waiting for my pupils to get big. After many lights from all angles, drops number 4 were put in to numb the surface of my eye so she could touch it with a special lens to be able to see all the obscure areas of my right retina. (my retina has not been quite right for a number of years, but she has concluded it is stable, which is worth all the nuisance to confirm). Altogether I was in the building for a little over an hour, mostly in the examining room but a little elsewhere. I got new prescriptions but didn't feel that I could make myself spend any more time there. I was weirded out at the idea of trying on frames, even though the optician assured me that they clean the frames when someone tries them on. I also was given a list of OTC eye drops from which to choose, but I didn't feel like being inside a drug store, either. Got home and swept leaves off the driveway, needing outdoor time.

I'm astounded by the large number of people, not just young ones either, who are happy to put themselves at risk out of boredom!
