I finished the half faster than I expected (3:04:57). That is more than an hour slower than my fastest ever half, but I am older, and was sick in September, and parts of this one were steep. Very scenic, as promised. There was an organizational mess up with the shuttle buses after the race, so hundreds of people who would rather have been bathing or probably almost anything other than being lined up in a parking lot in the sun spent an hour or more doing just that. I did eventually get the hot bath I wanted. We’ll see tomorrow how my body reacts to being pushed in that way. I have plans to do some parts of Acadia that I haven’t yet, including the light house at Bass harbor and an attempt to find out whether the place on the map labeled Pretty Marsh is correctly named.
Thus far I have been glad to have been here, but I don’t know that I’ll do any more solo race tourism. It is not as fun as it used to be when I was not alone. It is tempting to say that from now on I’ll either just do races that I can walk to (there are quite a few in Lexington every year, although never anything longer than 10k) or that I can get to easily from Alewife. We’ll see.
