Of course I watched bits of the lunar eclipse last night - it's what people like me do. There have been many LJ posts by friends. I watched the encroaching shadow from the bedroom window (more like, checked every 15 minutes to confirm that it really was progressing) and then went out for about half a minute of every 5 when it was around totality. If all you have to do is go to the porch steps, the elaborate wrapping up in layers isn't so necessary. It did feel necessary to actually be out under it with nothing in between us but Earth's atmosphere. An emotional response I'm not going to bother to analyze.
People like me - I wonder how many of my classmates went out to watch, but I realize that I don't make small talk with them on that level. It's sad. I should try to make some friends. There are lots of people with whom I chat about class subjects, but when I think of talking about the eclipse, the only person at school who pops to mind as a conversation partner is my Physics teacher. He teaches astronomy as well - I wonder whether thinking about such events in terms of distance and angles removes the magic.

"the silver moon is fantasy and the gold-brown one science fiction."

Muscle of the day: trapezius. Its insertion point is the same as the origin of the deltoid. How much room is there for all those fibers going in and out? Poking around on myself (it's pretty hard to reach the spine of the scapula) doesn't reveal much.
