me being me
Mar. 17th, 2011 02:39 pmI try very hard not to give my social security number to anybody other that the IRS, the social security agency, or folks like employers or banks that will be dealing directly with them. It is my experience that anyone who refers to one's "social" is not using it in the way specified by law. I am about to purchase liability insurance for the student clinical thing I will be doing in May & June. There are online and paper options for applying. I started the online one, only to see that a SS number was one of the required spaces. I called the help line to object. She said "everything is tied to your social," which makes me wonder whether the policy number will just be that, but she also remarked that the paper application doesn't require it. I thanked her and hung up. As it happens, if one goes to the paper application space, the online application form pops up. There is no place to click to print it, no address given to mail it to (although one is told how to pay and that it will take 7-10 days to process), and it still is requiring the SS number. I am not planning to do anything for which I could be sued, but if I ever need these people to act as an insurance company, I hope they do a better job than one would expect from my experiences so far.
Unrelated, I want to see this movie. There is no official release date for the US, but it was shown at SXSW last week, so maybe there's hope.

It was filmed at the now-demolished Heygate Estate, which although not where I usually hang out in London, is not far from Southwark Cathedral and other areas on south side of the Thames that I do walk along.
