We're supposed to be happy that revenge has fallen at last upon Osama Bin Laden? Even if it was perpetrated by a bunch of Navy Seals who are in thrall to the CIA? WTH? Haven't we learned anything? The CIA shouldn't even exist, much less be able to conduct illegal actions using folks who swore to uphold and defend the constitution. I think Mr. Bin Laden was a genuinely bad person, and he's probably better off dead than in the prison at Guantanamo Bay, but an illegal assassination on the soil of an alleged ally is not a good thing. All those people out there celebrating should stop. I'm OK with the service at the September 11th monument in the Public Garden, though. I understand that people want closure, but nothing is going to change. There hasn't been centralized control of Al Qaeda for ages, so this won't disrupt anything. The wars won't stop. The world is not more secure. And as much as I enjoyed the president's talk to the White House Press Corps,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9mzJhvC-8E&feature=aso
I think it's rather creepy that he could be so jokey when he presumably knew what was about to transpire.

One of my classmates said that maybe now gas prices would go down. I made some supply & demand remarks. She said "how do they expect us to pay four dollars a gallon?" I didn't ask who *they* might be, but couldn't contain myself anymore, and pointed out that the prices in Europe vastly higher, and people still drive. Gas can't be too expensive - my next door neighbor ran his snow blower for over an hour this afternoon, I presume to make it safe to store over the summer (all the gas blower folks in my neighborhood do this in the late spring every year). If it were valuable, some way would be found to siphon it into the gas-powered lawn mowers instead of just stinking up the air with it. And two or three classmates who had been taking the T decided to drive today due to the new loss of service on the Green Line (no Science Park or Lechmere service until December). Not only the price of gas but the price of meters as well must be bearable.
