The International Juggler's Association convention ("festival") is in Minnesota this year, and I'm planning to go for the latter part of it. This is always a difficult call, because Arthur tends to ignore me a lot when I'm there, but over the years we've worked out a system where I go for bits of it, hang out with him & his friends some, do some of the activities without him, and do some touristing. It's in Rochester, home of the Mayo Clinic, so I plan to take the tour. Rochester isn't too far from Iowa, so I thought to rent a car and drive over the border to see one of the many Laura Ingalls Wilder sites, in order to add another state to my life list. That's not the crazy part. From there it would only be another couple of hours to the Field of Dreams baseball field. That's a lot of driving in order to do what, have a stranger take a picture of me emerging from a cornfield and jogging around the bases? I'm considering it anyway, even though FoD isn't my favorite baseball movie (that would be "League of Their Own"). It isn't my favorite movie with Shoeless Joe Jackson (that would be "Eight Men Out"). It still wouldn't be my favorite Kevin Costner baseball movie in which I have actually been on the field (that would be "Bull Durham").
So, an possible extra four hours on the road from a person who rides her bike to the T on Sundays (when there's no Lexington bus) in order to avoid driving a few miles. I don't necessarily make any sense, even to myself.
