Dealing with body parts, one can't get away from torque, but otherwise I've forgotten most of the physics I sort of learned. I was reminded of the fact this morning when I knocked over the bottle of laundry detergent. I dumped baking soda into the puddle, to make it easier to scrape up, but noticed later that there were trails of detergent on the (quite low) basement ceiling. I thought of the blood spatter data on TV detective shows, but I wouldn't have thought to look for it.

One way that can happen is if the bottle hits the floor bottom first; it makes the detergent squirt out (in pretty much whatever direction the nozzle is pointing) with surprising force.
