random emotional triggers
Jan. 29th, 2012 03:55 pmI watched a few minutes of "Return of the King" on Friday evening. I can't remember the exact lines, but there is a bit when Eomer says something to guys on horses and one could tell from the scansion that Tolkien must have lifted it (and translated it) from something in Old English. Nothing I could cite, but my whole body felt sure of it. A weird feeling.
I've loved this version of Spencer the Rover since the album originally came out in 1980. I'm not sure how I happened to think of Robin Dransfield this afternoon, but I'm grateful someone put it up on Youtube, and when the instrumental interlude started, I had a similar emotional tug.

I keep meaning to write a long, thoughtful post about what I've been doing lately, and the values shown by school budgets, and other stuff, but it's going to have to keep waiting.
