We were away for a couple of weeks. I did a big circle of Oakland/San Francisco, Sacramento, Vancouver BC, Seattle, Portland & Wilsonville, OR (with a side trip to Vancouver, WA), back to the Bay area.
The first week Arthur was with me, and then we diverged (substituting LA & Cleveland and home). Planes, trains, and automobiles. I did the BC southward legs on trains or buses. Some lovely scenery, some trying to sleep sitting up. I don't have the photos, but here is a video of me mincing down stairs at a park near the Golden Gate bridge during a race. I show up at about 0:55, wearing a black hat, the only one trying even slightly to hold the hand rail.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=endscreen&v=mUkfSa1GLtE I made up some time before and after, so I did not begrudge myself the care on the steps. I also ran the Bay to Breakers race early on in the trip, with my only attempt at costuming a shirt on which my daughter (at my request) had painted a tree.
The pictures I would like most are ones that she took. On the afternoon/evening of the annular eclipse, we were in her back yard with a bunch of her friends and housemates. It wasn't quite total there, but good enough. I had packed my solar viewing glasses in preparation, and with one exception (a 5 year old kid), every person who looked at the eclipse with them on exclaimed "Whoa!" or "Wow!" upon first view. Flo went for her camera, and got people to repeat it for posterity.
Also, in case anybody needs to know, there is a vegan cinnamon bun shop in Berkeley, where you can order it without frosting on top. (on the other hand, many toppings are available for those who want them).
