I have a strong memory of seeing this object, or a similar one, in a local museum sometime in the past five years. Perhaps the Peabody -Essex museum, but can find no evidence that they've ever exhibited it. The American Museum of Natural History showed it a couple of years ago, and yet I'm pretty sure that I haven't been there recently ...

OK, I phoned my wife and figured this out. My "strong memory" is vicarious. She saw it at the AMNH. I only saw pictures.
