Anything but "Get a Horse"
Feb. 26th, 2014 09:56 pmI haven't seen many movies nominated for awards (or as many as usual in the past year at all). I had seen one of the nominated animated shorts, because it played before "Frozen." (I think). It's a Disney film called "Get a Horse," which starts out trying to be like a vintage Mickey Mouse cartoon, but then other stuff happens. There are bits of violence SPOILERS (like a character landing on a pitchfork, landing on his head from a height, etc). These actions are supposed to be funny, or at least Clarabelle the Cow and Minnie Mouse were laughing, but nobody in the theater laughed the first time I saw it, and nobody laughed today when I went to see the complete set of nominees (plus some honorable mention ones), interspersed with jokey conversations between an ostrich and a giraffe. It's rated G, for crying out loud. I wouldn't want a child to see it. I don't want to see it again.
In many ways, the only things the various films have in common is that they are animated. Some funny, some not, some that couldn't have been done before CGI, some that might have been possible with just hand drawing, some with talking, some without. I don't know what I'd pick for best, but I'll be annoyed if "Get a Horse" wins.
