tired of being cold; stuff
Aug. 14th, 2014 11:22 am Lots of people continue to complain about last winter. By choice, I don't have a winter coat, and it did get tedious to wear five layers on the really cold days, but since I don't have a paying job that I have to reach on snow days, the amount of shoveling was OK - I could space it out over a day or two, instead of trying to get it done by dawn. What is making me grumpy is the amount of coldness over this *summer.* We don't have air conditioning at home, but stores, public buildings, the T, etc, all seem to be kept at bone-chilling temperatures. I carry around a long-sleeved shirt, bought a shawl, and got a yard sale sweater for the juggling thing (the gym was like ice), but it's summer. One is supposed to be warm. (or hot. It's not always cold. There is no air conditioning at the farmers market, or when running outside on muggy days).
Going through some old file folders, I found about 10 copies of a Nicole Hollander "Sylvia" cartoon. Clearly I was planning to distribute it to others, but never did. I'm trying to remember why.
Each of Arthur's grandmothers gave us some of their china when they packed up to move (separately, several years apart) to Florida decades ago. They aren't useable sets - each grandchild got a sampling. We are in turn passing it on to the next generation. It's fairly easy to drive a carefully packed box to the Connecticut niece, but I'm not quite sure what to do with the items picked by the Sacramento niece. We really are not going to drive there. I think I will pack a box myself, with extravagant amounts of newspaper and bubble plastic, and send it through the mail, but it's worrisome. At some point Flo will be able to choose enough stuff from my parents to host a massive dinner party, if she wants to, so she is not taking any of the great-grandparent stash. She will eventually get the tablecloth that Arthur's Grandma Flo embroidered for us, though.
