We went this morning. The Burlington 10 has the most convenient timing, but last year they switched over to reserved lounge chair seats. As we were leaving, after 2+ hours, I suggested to Arthur that next time we take our own folding chairs, but I suspect the theater wouldn't approve.
I thought the film was a good tribute to the history of the franchise, with some interesting points and entertaining parts. We both spent some time wishing to have the ability to fast-forward. I don't know whether we would choose to delete the same spots. Ironically (I hope I'm using that properly), there was a short intro before the movie began, with Simon Pegg thanking us for seeing it in a cinema, the way it was meant to be seen. He phrased it in a positive way, to keep local cinemas in business, but I wonder whether there was just a little bit of "we're the professionals, you're not" included. Maybe I'm projecting.
I also kept thinking of Donald Trump, who would presumably object to the Federation's ideals of outreach and unity among everybody in the universe.
I was glad, as usual, that I had avoided almost all spoilers, trailers, etc. Unusually for me, I watched all the trailers before the feature, knowing that I would probably not see the movies. Arthur wondered why anybody would remake Ben Hur, and then admitted that he had never seen a previous version, other than a chariot race scene. It turns out that he had no idea that one of the main themes was conversion to Christianity. I hope that doesn't count as a spoiler, at this point.

Valerie and I went to Star Trek this afternoon. Hardly anyone in the theater, but we went to the 2D version. I enjoyed it, but as Valerie is fond of pointing out, Star Trek is like sex and pizza. Even bad instances are pretty good.
