sports viewing multi-tasking
Aug. 14th, 2016 08:57 amLast night I was watching the NBC track and field live coverage, speeding through the daytime stuff that I had recorded while there were commercials, and following Leslie Jones's personal responses on twitter https://twitter.com/Lesdoggg
The memory surfaced of my grandfather (in the 1960s, and therefore his 60s) sitting in front of a TV with a radio next to him, spending his summer Saturday afternoons following two baseball games at once. Other people were allowed to be in the same room, but were not allowed to speak. I wonder what he would think of screen in screen options (our TV doesn't do that, but some do) or live streaming. I also wonder whether he'd be pleased or just bemused that I have been watching some of the Olympic men's golf, as it was a sport in which he participated. (not at Olympic level; at hanging out with his friends level). I was pleased to learn that when they designed the golf course specifically for the Olympics, they took attributes of other courses from around the world and added them to the local topography.
