Where we are now
Nov. 15th, 2016 01:37 pmI typed out a long thing but LJ swallowed it somehow. I'll try to be brief. The metaphor I feel is that the United States is body (person/animal). We have been having more and more wounds over time, but in the past couple of years, the scabs have been ripped off faster than angiogenesis can keep up. Eric Garner - rip. HB2 - rip. Civilians bombed in Syria - rip. The ongoing rise in hate crimes, many religious-based - rip. http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2016/11/14/502036699/hate-crimes-rose-in-2015-with-religious-bias-a-growing-motivation-fbi-data-shows
In this past week, the election results and subsequent hate have felt like the biggest single wound. Now I wonder whether some degree of healing can happen, with big scars, or whether something will need to be amputated.
