Today is January 6th, Epiphany - Twelfth Night. I saw an article the other day about what people in Puerto Rico are doing for the holiday. There was a feature on my parents' local news station about a Mexican bakery in the area that was making king cakes. Stuff like that. My associations are tangents from SCA observances, mostly. I went to the bus stop this morning (8 degrees F) humming the Boar's Head Carol, and then slid away to the subject line. Nineweaving and/or Negothick will know who wrote the parody version (could have been one of them), but I was thinking fondly, missingly, of Marian.
This evening I listened to "Please to see the King," hoping just for the title song, but was sucked into listening to most of the album, thinking nostalgically of the 1970s. Not something I usually do. Music can do that to one, I guess.
Joy, Health, Love, and peace be all here in this place.

I'm pretty sure it came from the Buttery (hmm . . .sounds like a horror movie title), and also sure that I did not write that brilliant parody line. Thank you for reminding me of Marian, the Buttery, and the Boar's Head Carol.

I remember that one of Marian's favorite stories was about a new visitor to Buttery, not SCA, somewhen in the early years. She watched in amazement as Marian and others carried in a platter with a (mock) boar's head, and everyone in dining room and living room burst into "The Boar's Head in hand bear I. . ." The visitor said to Marian, in true amazement, "It was like a movie musical--such a beautiful song--and everyone knew all the words!"
