supposedly Green
Aug. 6th, 2018 03:14 pmThis past weekend was a Green Festival on City Hall plaza.

It was rained out on Saturday. The musician I heard yesterday was Evens Gregoire.

He was good, but didn't have much of an audience. Some of us stood under the trees, and some people were right up next to the stage, both shady spots, but nobody in between (ie in the blazing sun). For the most part, I wasn't impressed by the vendors. Pretty much exactly what one would expect, plus astoundingly (to me), pony rides. Doesn't that count as animal cruelty? I know someone whose service dog stays home when she ventures out in temperatures about 85 degrees or so. The other tent that amazed me was someone advocating for transportation pods, like these, I guess

I said I'd rather have the money required for such enormous infrastructure used to improve the T. She said subway improvements would be part of the project, but that there would no longer be buses. I wonder if she has ever ridden a bus. How could dozens of pods substituting for each bus increase efficiency?
In our personal greenness, we finally got organized to find what seems like a reliable carbon offset organization. Our carbon footprint is way bigger than average due to the huge number of flights we take. I have also signed up for peak alerts. Today, for example, consumers are asked to cut back on electricity use from 3-7 PM. I cooked all the supper components before 3. Presumably most people don't have such flexibility. We have a timer on the basement dehumidifier (one of our main suckers of power), so it doesn't run all the time, but it might be running during what seems to be peak time. We don't have any air conditioning, but do use fans.
