R.I.P. Molly Ivins, sliding into a rant
Feb. 4th, 2007 04:35 pm"So keep fightin' for freedom and justice, beloveds, but don't you forget to have fun doin' it. Lord, let your laughter ring forth. Be outrageous, ridicule the fraidy-cats, rejoice in all the oddities that freedom can produce. And when you get through kickin' ass and celebratin' the sheer joy of a good fight, be sure to tell those who come after how much fun it was."

Read the whole thing (really, go there and read it), and when you get to the part about "getting scared so bad that we hurt ourselves" remember that she wrote this in 1993, and note how much worse things have been since 2001. It's not terrorists that are harming us, it's the afraid
so much all the time that we're willing to abandon the Constitution stuff.
I went to see "Pan's Labyrinth" today and it didn't take long before the reality sets in that no supernatural thing could possibly be as scary as an evil Fascist stepfather. I am going to quit before I ride that analogy too far, though.
